Building Bridges Across the Pacific: TOMA’s Visit to Los Angeles

In October, members of TOMA’s International Tax and Inheritance Tax team visited Los Angeles, U.S. to meet with our esteemed clients and business partners.

This trip provided a valuable opportunity to offer in-person guidance on cross-border inheritance and individual income tax to our Japanese clients living overseas. The unique features of US taxation and Japanese inheritance tax present challenges for those with residence or family members in both countries.

Issues faced by our international clients include:
– Tax scope of U.S. citizens and Green Card holders living in Japan
– Foreign tax deductions on U.S. and Japanese tax
– Interaction between Japanese gift tax and inheritance tax

Our ability to deliver comprehensive assistance is made possible through close collaboration with our American business partners, who took the time to meet with us during this visit. We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to our partners, including:

– Two Miles (CPA): https://www.twomiles.net/en/
– Advanced Portfolio Strategies (Financial Advisor): https://www.advancedportfolios.com/

Meeting the Advanced Portfolio Strategies team

This was the first time to visit California for most of our team members. We took the opportunity to explore local highlights, including Redondo Beach and Downtown LA, and even managed to catch a postseason match between the LA Dodgers and the NY Mets.

The business trip proved to be highly memorable experience, allowing us to deepen our understanding of the challenges faced by our international clients and gain valuable insights shared by our business partners. TOMA is excited to continuously provide guidance on cross-border inheritance and strengthen our collaborative relationships.
